Awhile back, I posted this image about a restaurant I know little about. The original post was about my love of interesting images taken with low quality cameras.
Last week, Jeremiah’s Vanishing New York posted about Fedora’s. Jeremiah has almost the same photo I took and more. He has clearly used a better camera.
Jeremiah’s blog is bittersweet. He marks the passage of time and the changing of the city. Most cities and towns we visit are experiencing this same homogenization and suburbanization. Small independent businesses are being replaced by chains and franchise operations. We seem to me, to be loosing our individuality.
We normally like change, but don’t see this as a positive trend. We do look to the day when the change pendulum swings back to entrepreneurism.
Well, Fedora’s still stands and we must visit. For the food (maybe not so much, but one has to give it a try). For the spirit. For the design inspiration, should we ever have to recreate the feeling.
Artist Jon Hammer shares his work and thoughts about Fedora’s here.
