We do some graphic and identity design, generally for our clients who like our work and often as a part of a television, film or theatre design project. As such, we are constantly on the look out for inspiration and/or research materials for our files.
WebUrbanist recently posted this interesting story about the history of graphic art and identity on beer cans. Although I prefer beer from a bottle, poured into a glass, the small exhibition was quite interesting. I was a bit disturbed by the beer cans that remind me of very old oil cans.
One visually wonderful thing about the surge in micro brewing has been the increase in the quality of graphic design on the bottles. I usually select my beer and wine by the label. My philosophy is that if the distiller puts effort into the label, then they must put effort into the product. SImilarly, if the label appeals to my sensibility, then the brew will as well.
