From the High Line to the Lowline…

lowline-light-collector-demoComing in, well I wish there was a date set to open the former Williamsburg Bridge Trolley Terminal beneath Delancey Street in the Lower East Side of Manhattan as an underground park. It has been abandoned for over 50 years, and it’s not getting any younger.

Planers are using fiber optics to create skylights and bring natural illumination down from the surface. The idea is to create a bright, green subterranean park. With he High Line already a huge success, New York City is an ideal place to experiment with creating an underground park; The Lowline.

Adaptive reuse is one of our favorite Historic Preservation approaches, this is a terrific idea!
